Des dommages furent caus\u00e9s \u00e0 certaines r\u00e9sidences si bien que la police dut intervenir. Voyant qu\u2019elle ne faisait pas le poids face aux insurg\u00e9s, elle fit sonner les cloches de l\u2019\u00e9glise et celles de la caserne des pompiers.<\/p>\n<p>Le temps de le dire, plusieurs centaines de citoyens du village de Longueuil \u00e9taient sur les lieux repoussant les \u00e9tudiants. Ceux-ci se r\u00e9fugi\u00e8rent sur le quai du traversier, mais le bateau-vapeur n\u2019y \u00e9tait plus. Une bataille en r\u00e8gle s\u2019ensuivit. Des \u00e9tudiants furent battus et jet\u00e9s \u00e0 l\u2019eau.
